Hormone Replacement

What is Hormone Replacement Therapy?

Hormone replacement therapy (or HRT) is a treatment that involves replacing hormones that are at low levels in the body.

Hormone replacement therapy is performed by introducing hormones such as estrogen or testosterone to the patient’s body in an effort to restore natural hormonal balance. These medications can be taken orally, transdermally (through the skin), or by other means, such as subcutaneous or intramuscular injection.

Oftentimes, as people age, the body’s ability to naturally produce hormones decreases. This hormonal imbalance can lead to a myriad of issues like, but not limited to:

  • Low sex drive
  • Decreased energy levels
  • Decreased bone density
  • Depression
  • Unwanted weight gain
  • Hot flashes (in women)
  • Erectile Dysfunction (in men)

By reintroducing bio-identical hormones into the body, it is possible to restore the endocrine system and combat the effects of old age.

Hormone Replacement Therapy for Women

As the body ages, the natural process that keeps us feeling happy and healthy is shut down. In women, this is known as menopause. Menopause is scientifically defined as when a woman experiences a twelve-month period of time without a menstrual cycle.

Although this is a naturally occurring event, menopause can cause serious symptoms that negatively affect the quality of life. Most women being to experience menopause at the age of 51. This means that they must suffer through these symptoms through retirement and old age.

Women suffering from menopause symptoms such as hot flashes, memory loss, weight gain, and low libido may find that therapeutic treatment is a welcoming option. For this reason, many are turning to Weight Wise Weight Loss Centers to replace natural hormones.

Nurse Practitioner Laura Zajdel uses certified bio-identical hormones; her preference is state-of-the-art hormone pellet therapy featuring both estrogen and testosterone pellets. For women who have not had a hysterectomy or having difficulty with sleep, progesterone by mouth at bedtime is the best option.

Hormone Replacement Therapy for Men

Just like in women, as men age their ability to produce natural hormones is stunted. Even if you are a physically fit male with a healthy workout regimen and diet like intermittent fasting, you may experience the effects of low testosterone (and it’s not your fault).

In fact, since 1980, testosterone levels in men have dropped by a whopping 1% a year. Whether this is due to diet, sedentary lifestyle, micro-plastics or all of the above is unclear. What is clear is that you have around half of the amount of testosterone in your body as your father did.

This can make it extremely difficult to maintain a healthy weight or worse, sex life. For this reason, more men have begun to look towards HRT as a way of combating the effect of low testosterone.

There are many different application methods for male HRT from creams to weekly injections, but Nurse Practitioner Laura Zajdel argues that testosterone pellet therapy  is the best option for men looking to regain their natural hormone levels.

Pellet therapy is state of the art application that allows the therapy to last for up to six-month intervals, as opposed to weekly injections and or creams that are difficult to monitor. This is a particularly good option for those who are uncomfortable with needles or who fear accidentally brushing off HRT creams on loved ones.
